Never Go Back – Lee Child

The back of the book says:

After an spic and interrupted journey all the ways from the snows of South Dakota, Jack Reacher has finally made it to Virginia. His destination: a sturdy stone building a bus ride from Washington DC, the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. It was the closest thing to a home he ever had.

Why? He wants to meet the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner. He liked her voice on the phone. But the officer sitting behind Reacher’s old desk isn’t a woman. Why is Susan Turner not there?

What Reacher doesn’t expect is what comes next. He himself is in big trouble, accused of a sixteen-year-old homicide. And he certainly doesn’t expect to hear these words: ‘You’re back in the army, Major. And your ass is mine.’

Will he be sorry he went back? Or – will someone else?

I have been a fan of Lee Child’s books since I read Killing Floor out of a Reader’s Digest many years ago, so it was with great joy that I picked up the latest Jack Reacher novel. We had purchased it for a bargain at a second-hand stall and it was just waiting to be read. It didn’t disappoint.

Lee Child has a way of writing action and conflict that makes one understand the complexities of a fight scene whilst being able to appreciate the beauty of the mind and how it responds in a fight. Not usually one for blood and guts a Jack Reacher fight scene is always well choreographed and executed.

I also love the way the protagonist uses his brain to work things out – and then of course there is the romantic interests too.

Definitely a must read for any thriller/action/adventure/military-based lover.
Another book review.
