100 Themes #52 – Stirring of the Wind

When fortune’s wheel’s not swung your way,
And your fate’s thread’s a twisted knot.
Doubt takes your voice, you cannot pray;
You’ve fallen for life’s sickly plot.

No time to clean out your life’s fluff,
A spanner’s thrown into the works.
When your inner voice screams, “Enough!”
“Where are good things? Where are life’s perks?”

When you can’t tame your life’s despair,
Can’t wrestle down your hopelessness,
If life just really isn’t fair;
Your sun won’t rise, it always sets.

Look eastwards, the winds may still move;
Your life, by chance, could just improve.

This piece took a completely different direction than was intended when I discovered half-way through writing it that I had come first in a contest. It doesn't help with my financial situation, but I am 200 points and 3 months premium richer.

Oh, and it's supposed to be a sonnet in tetrameter
