Far Worse

100 Themes #96 - Lesson

Death is a cruel teacher.
It sneaks up behind you
And whacks your knees away;
You are left curled like a dead spider.

Death is a ruthless master.
It takes everything you give,
Everything you cherish;
You are left curled protectively,
Like a foetus,
Around those things sacred to you

Death is mean.
It sticks its nose where it isn't wanted,
It takes what it should never take,
It Lords over everyone – a reign
Of fear and loathing.

Staunch soldiers quiver with jelly-legs,
When death takes a life they knew.
Stubborn mothers dissolve like waterlogged tissues,
When death takes a child.

Death is a cruel teacher...
...life is far worse.
