Although events may shock you in their similarity,
History does not repeat itself:
Time has moved on, changed,
And the people are different...
Even if only slightly.

Why is her history looping like a scratched CD?
Last year’s fights, pain, fear and silence
Are relentless assassins attacking her:
Same problems. Same place.
Same way.

It seems so small, so simple:
The family-sized piece of her history
That repeatedly betrays her...
But it’s not simple to her,
Or the rest of her family.

Are they doomed to walk
In ever-contracting circles
Until death comes to change the path?
Either the problem expires
Or one of the surrounding pieces gets lost:
Altering history.

History may not repeat itself,
But she is trying to do this year’s puzzle
With last year’s pieces...
And last year’s failure
Is approaching.
