She is an emotional desert:
You can see it in her eyes
And hear it in her voice.
It is portrayed in the language her body speaks;
The language she doesn't even know she utters.
She thinks no one sees,
But some do.
Those that know the desert she lives in;
Those like her.
They try to help her the best they can;
But they always seem to fail.

They try to become her oasis,
But she passes by without stopping for an emotional drink.
Without seeing that they will try to catch her when she falls,
Without seeing that they are offering her more than health;
They are offering her a chance at a different life...
A life full and rich,
Where emotions wrestle with logic and sometimes win.
A life full of happiness and love;
Love she can't see now, though it is there.

She won't allow love to enter her heart,
For she has been hurt by it before:
She won't allow them to hurt her again,
Even if it is only a by-product or accident.
She won't ever love again,
She promised herself.
But still, deep inside,
She hopes she's wrong.
She hopes that she won't have to be a desert forever:
She is thirsty for a better life.

Her eyes are blind to the hands held out towards her;
The hands held out for a friendly grip on life,
The hands that could help her.

No, not a single light she sees,
And she wonders what is life worth living for;
Why she still holds on
To the illusion of hope that floats before her,
A mirage in her emotionless desert.
She believes nobody can help her,
She believes nothing can save her,
And that's what makes her feel even more depressed.

Nobody, no one...
