For the Fishcake...

I wish someone knew the entwined futures or possessed that wonderful map,
For the paths change far too many times to be safe and secure
And the winds blow smoke to cover walking feet too often for safety.
But maybe the paths aren’t meant to be safe?

The Lady of Riddles may cheat and con
But she is confident in her chances.
In that aspect you are like her – you share confidence.
There are many things you know more about than me,
Many things Lady Riddle,
Just as there are things where I know more than you...
Ask me to draw a graph from a complex formula and I am helpless –
Facing a dragon without a sword –
But ask me to compose a poem and I stand on firmer ground...
Ask me to read English and the ground is firmer still.

Dear Lady is it not that your words make me feel failure,
Merely that by you needing to utter them
It is obvious that I have failed.
But then we are all due a certain amount of failure before success...
I have had so much failure success should be right around the corner.

You speak truths, I have survived past my estimated expiry date,
Mostly thanks to words from you and others.
When night blankets me in dark thoughts it is to you that I turn in hopes of something shared –
A song, a riddle, a rhyme.
Kindness, condolence, comfort.

Lady Riddle, sing me a song of joy and hope,
For it is in words that I find what I am looking for
And it is in words that I am caught hoping with others.
