True Family
5-01-11
I am not proud of what I did,
What I said or how I hurt others.
My actions pierced the hearts of many
Worse than a mugger's stab.
And my deeds will continue to pierce them
Like the needle on a sewing machine whirring in and out.
What I'm proud of, is the spark of community spirit
And the love of a true family that was shown to one in need.
Ordinary life dictates that when one is weak,
You let it die to save the herd.
The literary community told ordinary life to take a hike
As they rallied around the weakest member at that moment,
Trying as hard as they could to save someone many did not know.
In a world more selfish than kind,
That spark of community and family
Showed me more love than I've ever seen.
'Deviant' is a word the world uses with loathing;
It's a word I now use with love – my
New synonym for friend.
Each of you showed me that true family does exist,
And that the simple spark of a community with one goal
Can change God's mind.
