The Way I Really Am
17-7-16

Do I believe what’s reflected in Your eyes?
The vision of who I am – who I want to be –
Is mirrored for me to see if only I would believe it,
If only I would dare look, understand,
Listen.
My disappointments are stepping stones,
My triumphs pave my way;
It’s who I am now that matters most –
How You see me and my life –
My efforts will be fruitless
If I am not plugged into the true reality of who I am;
Free in the truth,
Free by the truth,
Free for the truth.
What do I see when I look at my reflection in You?
Am I content,
Or does disbelief breed discontentment
As my image fractures like a kaleidoscope
Of carbon-copy contempt?
You are my mirror;
My reflection in You speaks only truth.
So, tonight's sermon was part #1 of a series on Proverbs. The topic was wisdom, and basically it boiled down to whether we learn things in life through the 'school of hard knocks' or through listening to others (who have perhaps experienced 'it' already and know the way through). Whether we will try our own way until it's blindingly obvious that that way is not the right way, or listen to and learn from others. Also, others are the mirror for how our life really is - how we really are - especially those who know us well. (And God is the ultimate mirror, bearing only a truthful image).
