New KidSo, you’re the new kid, right? Mind if I sit here? Thanks! Some people just like to eat lunch by themselves, and I’m cool with that, but I figured you’re just eating by yourself because you’re the new kid and you don’t know anybody, am I right? I’m Mike! What’s your name?
I can’t hear, you talk so softly. What? Here, just say it right in my ear. Cool, nice to meet you Harry! You talk so softly I can hardly hear you, but that’s cool. You don’t like talking that much do you? That’s cool. People say I talk too much!
Where are you from? Huh? New Mexico? Seriously? That’s like desert out there, right? Awesome. So, what brings you to Virginia? If you don’t want to talk about it, that’s cool. People gotta move for all kinds of reasons. When I was 10 I lived with my dad in Maryland, and now I live with my mom. I didn’t want to talk about it. Not back then. It’s cool.
Anyway, so, since you

Hellhound and graveyard guardian Grimur fell asleep on the job. By the time he woke up hundreds of years later, the graves were gone and humans had developed automobiles. He had two options: check in with Beelzebub for his next assignment -- never pleasant -- or lay low for a while...

But still, what a fuss they made over that cat. The first time the cat spoke, Bodean paused The Price is Right and remarked to Nancy, “That did not sound like a hairball.” Nancy got down on the floor and cooed, “What’s wrong Banksy? I hope you’re not sick!” Banksy leaned into the caress of her hand and repeated his first word in a crackly voice, as if he found it extremely important.
“Golf.”
“Well, shit,” said Bodean, joining Nancy on the floor. “You ever heard a cat make a sound like that?”
“I should take him to the vet!”
“Now, now, Nanc, don’t you go spending money we don’t have on this feline. Sounded to me like he said ‘golf

Heroes ThreeGather round, mine children dear, to thee a tale I’ll tell,
Of justice and of bravery, of sword and shield and spell,
For thou shalt be three heroes bold, in this tale of mine,
And quest abroad with merry hearts, following a sign--
A promise of adventure, of treasure and of might,
And yet a warning also, that suffer those who fight
For causes reprehensible, for wanton selfish goals,
For enmity instead of love for helpless needy souls--
A simple rule, so you may think, yet a puzzle still to most
That hated most are they who hate, and vexing they who boast
Of all they are that you are not… but now I’ve lost my thread,
Of the tale I meant to tell-- thou wilt hear of that instead!
Now in this tale I promised, thou shalt be heroes three,
Thou a knight, and thou a rogue, and wizard I name thee
And haply it shall be that bosom friends thou art
Better far together than any one apart,
For the knight shall shield the others by his strength of arm,
And the rogue shall keep the s
RedOnce upon a time, there was a girl who lived in the city with her grandmother, who had raised her to be careful and smart on the streets, and to always take something with her for her own protection, because it was a big world out there, and you could never be too careful. The girl listened to her grandmother for the most part, but sometimes she could forget or, if she was in a hurry, assume that because nothing had happened in all the years she’d lived there, nothing would this one time. For the most part, she was right.
Then, one evening, she had to run to the corner shop to pick some things up for her grandmother, and she didn’t think to take any pepper spray or magic charms for safety’s sake; after all, it was only a block there and back, and she wouldn’t cut through any alleys or pass anything dangerous. But as she was on her way back to the apartment, a man blocked her way with a smile.
“Here, sweetheart,” he said, “where are you going so
